Review Greetings, FX fiddling infidels. You may recall a few months ago I discovered a couple of sexy Siberians from AMT in the form of the Fatal Tube and DistStation. Well a few boats have been back and forth since then and some more homeless pedals have knocked on my studio door for refuge. In fact, a whole range has emerged from the Asia Music Technology camp, which are to be featured at some point in this magazine.I was bursting to be the first to tell you about a couple that tripped my fuses. Both pedals work on the same principle and contain a real tube mounted sideways on and displayed through a cool clear window. The amazing thing is that they are powered only by a battery to drive the valve and make it glow. Looking inside the box they are very simple, but seem to deliver what they claim effectively. First up is the Magnum Tube. which was driving distorted Cornford and Marshall heads with. It performs best as a hot overdriver to clean up and sharpen muddy riffs and furry sounding valves. It can be introduced quite subtly, almost like a treble booster on a mild setting, or as a full on valve torturing razor attack. Next up is the Platinum Tube, which is similar in design and features buy has a slightly different character. this pedal has more high-end and massive amounts of distortion waiting to be unleashed on unsuspecting victims. As with the Magnum I found it great for cleaning up and sharpening abusive grievous riffs, but it also delivered the goods for a vicious and unreasonable solo. These are great enhancing pedals, subtly giving edge and clarity and overdrive to a filthy exciting piranha attack. Other boxes I was battering from the new range include: California Sound, Tweed Sound, British Sound and the Metalizer.
