These are not yet released to the public. These are made by the same people that do the GFS pickups that everyone is talking about. I have installed the GFS pickups on three different guitars- even replacing a brand new set of Gibson Classic 57's with the GFS "Fat" alnico humbuckers- So blown away with the pickups that I have been regularly emailing Jay and Dave at GFS on a daily basis. The Xaviere guitar that I got is a preproduction model but they say it will be exactly the same in production- Mine is a very tight tiger flame top done in an amazing "Lemon Drop" sunburst- which is lke a bleached amberburst. Back and neck are Korina- which is basically a pale African Mahogany. Pikcups are GFS "Fat Pafs" in Gold. The guitar is set up pretty nice- they wired the humbuckers to two indivual coil tap switches- and when both pickups are in single coil mode the coils from each pickup are noise cancelling- which is a great idea! Knobs are machined brass, gold plate with those Mother of Pearl inserts- classy- hardware looks top notch. Best part of the look is the headstock- kind of a Rickenbackerish deal with two SIlver metal plates- one for the logo and a Diamond for the letter "X". Rosewood fretboard has real MOP slotted diamonds. Not really a Les Paul- bottom of the guitar is fat and round, waist narrow- sharp cutaway- Looks amazing- best part is the weight- Sic of buying these Epiphones that clock in at $12 lbs. Mine is 7.7 lbs!!!!! Lighter than my 2003 USA Strat! Sound: 10 Well- I already admitted that I'm a fan of the pickups- and the Fat Pafs really do the job here. Stupendous bottom end (Like all the GFS pickups), smooth and warm mids and a clear and open high end- What is really surprising is how great the single coil sound is- I can almost get an SRV swamp thign happening. The guitar seems to sustain forever- and the Korina really gives it a unique voice- even acoustically it's loud as hell. Action, Fit, & Finish: 10 Since they really set this proto up just for me it's spotless- finish quality is excellent, fretwork just perfect- Can't vouch for the production models- bu thtis one is great- Only problem- one of the knobs fell off and I did not have a suitable allen wrench to tighten it- so waiting for GFS to send me one. I thnk you'll be VERY impressed with just how good a reasonably priced guitar can be if you check one of these out- I don't know if they are going to sell through dealers or not... Reliability/Durability: N/A Had it for two days- I'll post later with more info as I beat it a bit Customer Support: 10 The best and most knowledgeable cats in the biz- if you ask me. Dozens of emails back and forth- Jay and Dave really know guitars and pickups- in fact they even steered me towards the proper Duncan pickups for my tele when I asked- couldn't be happier- Also- they answer emails likeimmediately- Once had to wait SIX FRICKIN DAYS for Fender to answer me- Jay answered me in 30 minutes on a SUNDAY... Overall Rating: 10 Been playing for 12 years, have a Les Paul Classic, numerous Fender and Tokai guitars, Epiphone ELitist, Taylor Jumbo, Vox, Fender, Hiwatt amps. I really think this guitar is at least as good as my Elitist- which was $1100- and really probably sounds better than my 1960 classic. I'll give these guys a ten cause I like them- And yes- I really bought this guitar with my own damned money- once they get them rolling I would like to get one of their "Sparkle" finish guitars too... If you're in the market for a sub $500 guitar this may be the best one out there- Submitted by Johnny B at 04/21/2005 09:45
